career development center continues remote student services
kutztown, pa. – the career development center at kutztown university continues to be a resource for students, rearranging efforts to continue providing services remotely and catering to student needs and safety in this difficult transition.
the career development center’s exploration and career exploration certificate programs have been moved online. the career development center can be found on d2l as a course, where participating students can access powerpoint presentations with voiceovers along with corresponding quizzes. all students have access to the career development center on d2l. those who were participating in the certificate program as a part of an academic course or simply taking advantage of the opportunity can continue to do so, as staff will continue to track student progress and report to faculty partners as students complete their course assignments. many links to helpful career resources can be found in the online resource library.
due to the necessary cancellation of the spring internship and job fair, employers who were scheduled to attend have made sure their position openings are posted on handshake for students to view and apply. an internships and jobs booklet was emailed to students april 1 and is posted on the career development center’s website.
for freshmen and sophomores looking to take the kuder journey career assessment, the assessment can still be taken online. the access code (j3825742anj) is also posted on the main page of the career center website.
for the nearly 200 students registered for mock interview mania week, standout can be utilized to record practice interviews. student videos are in the process of being forwarded to the employer volunteers, continuing the practice of getting feedback from real, potential recruiters. the community employer volunteers will review them and provide feedback via email. any student wishing to practice and record an interview can use standout and receive feedback from career center staff for the remainder of the semester. resume and cover letter reviews are still available, exclusively through handshake through the end of the semester.
career coaching appointments are being offered via zoom and phone. as these appointments are a requirement for certain career certificates, appointments may fill quickly over the next six weeks, so book in advance. appointments and questions are still being answered by phone 610-683-4067 or at firstname.lastname@example.org.
continue to look for career connect, the biweekly e-newsletter, sent to juniors and seniors. hot jobs, which pulls postings out of handshake, tailored to student majors, will also continue to be emailed to students. the latest hot jobs email was created specifically for remote positions with many more similar positions already available in handshake.
students set to graduate in may should keep an eye out for communication regarding their job search during this economic slowdown. the career development center plans to offer live zoom sessions with both staff and employer partners on numerous key topics, tips and tricks.
stay abreast of career opportunities and offerings through the frequent updates by the career development center on their website and ku media outlets. an infographic on all of the continuing resources appeared in the most recent university newsletter. the next featured infographic will focus on volunteering, research and strategies to continue gaining experiences and skills to strengthen individual student’s career brand.
