dear ku campus community,
welcome back for the spring 2020 semester. i hope you all had an enjoyable break and were able to spend some time re-energizing for the months ahead.
this spring, we welcome approximately 300 new students to campus. we also continue to work hard to bring a strong freshman class to ku in the fall.
in the weeks ahead, we will be sharing information on the progress toward our new strategic enrollment management plan, as well as our financial health, as we prepare for the 2020-21 academic year. we also look forward to welcoming state system chancellor dr. daniel greenstein to campus on march 27th, as we continue to work with the state system in shaping our future.
as always, the pride our students bring to our campus highlights our efforts. they excel in the classroom, through their extracurricular activities, by celebrating diversity and by giving back to our community. i was pleased that more than 50 students dedicated the final day of their winter break to the mlk day of service on monday. i encourage you to read the story on our website at the following link: //www.laquigua.com/news-and-media/news-releases/january-2020/ku-opens-spring-semester-with-day-of-service.html. this story is one example of the many great activities that occur on our campus each and every day.
the beginning of a new semester is a perfect opportunity to remind everyone of our commitment to diversity. earlier this month, the university was the subject of a story in the media that contradicts our commitment to diversity. i want to assure you, that we take allegations of discrimination very seriously. we are fully committed to our mission to provide a caring campus community that embraces diversity and inclusion. while we must keep in mind that all individuals have the right to free speech on our campus, our university rejects all forms of racism, bigotry and discrimination, including anti-semitism.
working together, i know we will continue to do all we can to make kutztown university, and our surrounding community, a safe and welcoming place for all.
best wishes for an enjoyable and successful semester. i look forward to seeing you all in the days ahead.
